Shawn O’Malley was the starting shortstop for the inaugural season and then rejoined the Stone Crabs briefly during the 2010 season on an injury rehab assignment. During his time with the Stone Crabs, he was a combined .271/.327/.392 with 11 doubles, 4 triples, a home run, 30 RBI’s and 44 stolen bases in 111 games split between 2009 and 2010. He lead the Florida State League in on base percentage and ranked fifth in the league in stolen bases. His performance in 2009 led to player of the week honors in July and then a nomination to the Florida State League post season all-star squad.

O’Malley was drafted by the Devil Rays in the fifth round of the 2006 draft out of Southridge (WA) High School. He spent his debut season with the Princeton Devil Rays in 2006. He was promoted to he Hudson Valley Renegades in 2007 and then to the Columbus Catfish in 2008. In 2009, he continued his climb through the organization by being promoted to the Stone Crabs.

In 2010 he was promoted to the Montgomery Biscuits where he spent most of the season except for a stint on the disabled list where he recovered with the GCL Rays and the Stone Crabs for 10 games.
