John Matulia was a member of the Stone Crabs outfield platoon during the 2009 season. He hit .278 with 22 doubles, 5 triple, 2 home runs, 30 RBI’s and 10 stolen bases in 87 games with the Stone Crabs before his late season call-up to Montgomery. His 22 doubles led the Stone Crabs and his 5 triples was good for tenth in the league.
Matulia was drafted by the Rays in the tenth round of the 2005 draft out of Eustis (FL) High School. He split his first professional season between Princeton and Hudson Valley in 2005. He began the 2006 season with Southwest Michigan before returning to Hudson Valley to finish the season. Matulia was promoted to Columbus in 2007 and then to Vero Beach for 2008. He began the 2009 season with Montgomery and then was transferred to the Stone Crabs late May where he would stay for the remainder of the season.
Matulia was promoted back to Montgomery to start the 2010 season.
