Emeel Salem was with the Stone Crabs during the inaugural season and was the clubs regular center fielder for the 2009 season. He hit .255 with a OBP of .327, 12 doubles, 7 triples and 24 RBI’s. Salem was hot in the month of July, earning hitter of the week honors for the week of July 13.
Salem was drafted by the Rays in the sixth round of the 2007 draft out of the University of Alabama. He made his pro debut with the Hudson Valley Renegades in 2007 where he was a New York-Penn League All-Star. He was promoted to the Columbus Catfish for the 2008 season where he was named an all-star once again, this time for the South Atlantic League.
After spending the 2009 season with the Stone Crabs, Salem was promoted to the Montgomery Biscuits to start the 2010 season. He remained with the Biscuits for most of the season and was named a Southern League All-Star before a late season promotion to the Durham Bulls.
