Craig James pitched briefly for the Stone Crabs in the beginning of the 2009 season. He appeared in just two games for the Stone Crabs before being released by the Rays. During this time, he was 0-1 with a 9.82 ERA and 4 strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.
James was signed by the Seattle Mariners organization as a free agent in 2003. He spent six seasons in the Mariners farm system, reaching as high as AA West Tennessee. He joined the Rays organization in late 2008 where he was assigned to the Vero Beach Devil Rays. After two appearances with the Stone Crabs to start 2009, James was released on May 7.
Following his release from the Rays organization, James played for the Schaumburg Flyers of the independent Northern League.
