The Stone Crabs early season woes continue as they watch an early lead dissolve in a 7-6 walk-off loss to the Bradenton Marauders on Saturday night at LECOM Park.
Bradenton jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Mitchell Tolman tripled to right and later scored on a wild pitch to give them a 1-0 lead.
The Stone Crabs bounced back and answered with a five run third inning. Nathan Lukes singled to left. He moved to second via a stolen base and then to third following a single by Brandon Lowe. Jake Fraley cleared the bases with a three run homer, the Stone Crabs first long ball of the season to give them the lead. Two more runs came later in the inning on a two run double by Dalton Kelly to score Jake Cronenworth and Brett Sullivan, giving the Stone Crabs a 5-1 lead.
Bradenton followed with a home run of their own in the bottom of the third. Logan Hill went deep with a solo shot to make it 5-2.
Bradenton tied the game in the sixth inning. A two run double by Chrisian Kelley and an RBI single by Michael Tolman tied the game at 5.
The Marauders regained the lead by scoring in the bottom of the eighth. Daniel Arribas delivered an infield single, scoring Casey Hughston and giving the Marauders a 6-5 lead.
The Stone Crabs tied the game once again in the top of the ninth. Lowe drew a walk to put the tying run on the basepath. Peter Maris single to right, moving Lowe to third. Then a sac fly by Fraley scored Lowe and tied the game.
But the Marauders used home field advantage to pick up the win. A single nad back to back walks loaded the bases for the Marauders. Then a bases loaded free pass to Arribas scored Hill and handed the Stone Crabs the 7-6 walk-off loss.
Taylor Hawkins was charged with the loss for the Stone Crabs. Jess Amedee was the winning pitcher for Bradenton.
The Stone Crabs look to avoid the sweep in the series finale on Sunday afternoon at LECOM Park.
