Former Stone Crabs pitcher CJ Riefenhauser has been claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs after being designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles on February 4. RIefenhauser spent the 2015 season split between Durham and Tampa Bay with a brief DL stint in Charlotte in May.
Riefenhauser was drafted by the Rays in the 20th round of the 2010 draft out of Chipola Junior College. He spent his entire playing time in the Rays organization, making his major league debut April 19, 2014. Following the 2015 season, Riefenhauser was traded to the Seattle Mariners and then about a month later he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles designated him for assignment where he was picked up by Joe Maddon’s Cubs.
Riefenhauser has played 31 games for the Stone Crabs earning a FSL All-Star nomination in 2012 as well as a player of the week award in May 2012.
