The Stone Crabs jumped out to an early four run lead in the second inning. They opened the inning with three straight hits and a walk before putting on an out on the scoreboard. In all the Stone Crabs sent nine guys to the plate who accounted for five hits and a walk to score the four runs. Justin Williams, Braxton Lee and Hector Guevara collected the RBI’s to give the Stone Crabs a 4-0 lead.
But Fort Myers matched the Stone Crabs with a four run inning of their own in the third. Their inning was highlighted by two triples (Zach Granite and Bryan Haar) to help get the job done to tie the game.
The Stone Crabs regained the lead in the fifth inning. Guevara led off the inning with a single to left and later score on a ground ball by Casey Gillaspie to give the Stone Crabs a 5-4 lead.
The Miracle answered by taking their first lead of the night in the sixth inning. An RBI double by Chad Christensen, an ground ball by Engelb Vielma and an RBI single by Aderlin Mejia gave the Miracle a 7-4 lead.
Fort Myers added some insurance in the seventh, pushing across two more runs to make it 9-5.
The Stone Crabs couldn’t bounce back as they fell to the Miracle 9-5.
German Marquez was charged with the loss for the Stone Crabs. Mat Batts was the winning pitcher for Fort Myers.
The series shifts to CenturyLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers for game two. Greg Harris (1-3, 2.95) will be making the start for the Stone Crabs against Stephen Gonsalves (6-2, 2.70) for Fort Myers.
