Stone Crabs Win Rain Shortened Game Against St Lucie

After getting rained out yesterday, the Stone Crabs attempted to play a twin bill against the St Lucie Mets on Monday at Tradition Field. But rain quickly overtook the first game of the doubleheader but not before the Stone Crabs worked up a 5-2 lead, winning the shortened contest.

St Lucie scored first, breaking the scoreless tie in the third inning. Stone Crabs started Buddy Borden issued a one-out free base to both Colton Plaia and Champ Stuart. The Mets then loaded the bases following a single by Yeixon Ruiz. Jeff McNeil plated the first run of the inning with a sac fly to score Plaia. Then Victor Cruzado followed with an RBI single to score Stuart and give the Mets a 2-0 lead.

The Stone Crabs doubled up on the Mets in the fifth inning. Granden Goetzman led off the inning with an infield single. He stole second and later scored on an RBI double by Justin Williams. Williams then scored on an RBI double by Armando Araiza to tie the game. A perfectly laid bunt by Braxton Lee combined by an errant throw scored Araiza to give the Stone Crabs the lead. Lee later scored on an RBI single by Hector Guevara to give the Stone Crabs a 4-2 lead.

The Stone Crabs offense went right back to work in the sixth inning. Jace Conrad doubled to center to lead off the inning. He then scored on a double by Goetzman. Goetzman advanced to third on a single by Williams. But the rain set in before any more damage could done, giving the Stone Crabs a 5-2 win.

Buddy Borden picked up the win for the Stone Crabs. Michael Gibbons suffered the loss for St Lucie.

Game two of the doubleheader was postponed and will be played as a doubleheader on Tuesday. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 4pm.
