Stone Crabs Drop Opener to Bradenton

The Stone Crabs overcame an early defecit but couldn’t find a way to beat the Bradenton Marauders as they lost the series opener 5-2 on Thursday night at McKechnie Field
Bradenton took the lead in the first inning. Justin Maffei tripled to right to lead off the inning. He then scored on a ground out by Austin Meadows to give them a 1-0 lead.

The Marauders added to their lead in the second. Michael Fransoso singled to left. He advanced to third on a single by Chris Diaz. Then an errant pick-off throw scored Fransoso and increased the lead to 2-0.

The Stone Crabs fought back to tie the game in the fourth. Kean Wong opened the inning with a single to left. Wong later scored on an RBI triple my Mike Marjama. Marjama then scored on a single by Granden Goetzman. But the Stone Crabs wouldn’t get anything else out of the inning as they stranded two runners in scoring position but tied the game 2-2.

Bradenton regained the lead in the fifth inning. A two run double by Meadows gave the Maruaders a 4-2 lead.

Bradenton added an insurance run in the seventh. Harold Ramirez singled home Chris Diaz to increase the lead to 5-2.

The Stone Crabs threatened in the eighth but were retired without a run as they lost the opener 5-2.

Greg Harris was charged with the loss for the Stone Crabs. Henry Hirsch was the winning pitcher and Dovyda Neverauskas earned the save.

The series resumes on Friday night at McKechnie. Brent Honeywell (3-2, 4.50) will get the start for the Stone Crabs against Cody Dickson (10-5, 4.07) for Bradenton.
