The GCL Rays had a hard time keeping the ball in the yard as they fell to the GCL Orioles 3-1 on Friday afternoon at Charlotte Sports Park.

The Rays took the field with Ernesto Frieri on the mound, pitching a one inning rehab assignment for the Rays. He gave a scoreless inning with 2 strikeouts before turning the mound over to regular G-Rays starter Abrahan Rodriguez.

The Orioles took the lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Gerrion Grim to give them a 1-0 lead.

The Rays tied the game in the sixth inning. Joseph Astacio singled to lead off the inning. He would later score on an RBI single by Adrian Rondon to tie the game.

The Orioles regained the lead in the eighth inning on a solo home run by Seamus Curran, his first professional homer. They would add an insureance run a little later in the inning on a RBI single by Branden Becker to score Daniel Franco and give the O’s a 3-1 lead.

The Rays went down in order in the eighth and the ninth as they fell 3-1.

Jesus Ortiz suffered the loss for the Rays. Kory Groves was the winning pitcher and Jake Bray got the save for the Orioles.

The two game series concludes on Saturday at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota.
