The Stone Crabs were swept by the division leading Palm Beach Cardinals following a 4-3 loss in the series finale on Wednesday night at Charlotte Sports Park. The loss has extended the Stone Crabs losing streak to ten games.

The Stone Crabs took an early lead by scoring in the first inning. Andrew Velazquez doubled to center to lead off the inning. He then scored on an RBI single by Desmond Jennings to give the Stone Crabs a 1-0 lead.

But the lead was quickly erased as the Cardinals tied the game on a solo home run by Luke Voit in the top of the second.

The game remained tied at 1-1 until the top of the sixth when Palm Beach struck for three runs. Buddy Borden walked the bases loaded before being replaced by reliever Mike Franco. A wild pitch by Franco allowed the first run of the inning to score and broke the tied. The Cardinals got two more runs, one on a sac fly by Voit and another on an RBI single by Danny Diekroeger to give Palm Beach a 4-1 lead.

The Stone Crabs chipped away at the lead by scoring the seventh and the eighth. In the seventh it was an RBI single by Velazquez to score Jace Conrad. Then in the eighth Justin Williams drove home Willy Adames. But the Stone Crabs couldn’t find a way to score another run as they fell 4-3.

Borden was charged with the loss for the Stone Crabs. Blake McKnight picked up the win and Keith Butler the save for Palm Beach.

The Stone Crabs head north to McKechnie Field for a three game series against the Bradenton Marauders. Greg Harris (1-1, 3.86) will start the series opener on Thursday against Luis Heredia (4-5, 5.72) for Bradenton.
