The Twins jumped out to a 6-0 lead by the middle of the third inning. Josmil Pinto drove home Christian Cavaness in the first inning to put the first run on the board. Then the Twins got four more in the second on an RBI triple by Cavaness, an RBI single by Luis Arraez and a two run homer by Pinto. Then in the third in was an RBI single by Trey Cabbage to increase the lead to 6-0.
The Rays posted a pair of runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third. Oscar Rojas got things going with a triple to right. He wouldn’t stay there longs as Joseph Astacio drove him home with a single to left. Astacio later scored on an RBI single by Devin Davis to make it 6-2.
But the Twins countered with a pair of runs of their own in the fourth. An RBI double Cavaness scored Ariel Montesino for the first run of the frame. Then Cavaness scored on a ground ball by Pinto to give the Twins an 8-2 lead.
The Rays added a run in the sixth inning. Davis singled to lead off the inning. He later scored on an error following a ground ball by Miguel Hernandez to give the Rays their third run of the afternoon.
The Rays tried to mount a rally in the bottom of the ninth. They opened the inning with back to back walks by Rojas and Astacio. Then Garrett Whitley came through with a double to right, scoring Rojas and moving Astacio to third. Astacio later scored on a sac fly by Yoel Araujo. But the rally was cut short as the Rays fell 8-5.
