The series against the GCL Red Sox shifted to Fort Myers for game three but the struggles continued as the GCL Rays were shut-out 4-0 in Wednesday’s game. The game was evenly matched in the hit category but the Rays couldn’t find a way to translate those hits into runs as they were shut-out.
All four runs for the Red Sox came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sean Coyle drove home two runs with a double to center. Coyle later scored on a balk by Jesus Ortiz. The final run of the inning came on an RBI double by Trent Kemp to give the Red Sox the 4-0 margin of victory.
The Rays had plenty of opportunities to get back into the game but an 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position and eight stranded baserunners led to the Rays being held scoreless on the afternoon.
Jesus Ortiz was charged with the loss for the Rays. Enmanuel De Jesus picked up the win and Nick Duron the save for the Red Sox.
The four game set wraps up on Thursday at Charlotte Sports Park.
