The Stone Crabs overcame an early deficit only to give up the lead in the late innings and eventually lose to the Palm Beach Cardinals 5-4 in ten innings on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium.

Palm Beach jumped out to an early lead by scoring in the second inning. Collin Radack doubled to left to lead off the inning. He later scored on an RBI single by Luke Voit to give the Cardinals the 1-0 lead.

The Stone Crabs matched the run and added another to take the lead in the fourth. Willy Adames drew a walk to lead off the inning, Adames then scored on an RBI double by Granden Goetzman to tie the game. Goetzman would later score on a sac fly by Jace Conrad to give the Stone Crabs a 2-1 lead.

But the Cardinal tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Voit would collect his second RBI of the night on a sac fly to score Brett Wiley and tie the game 2-2.

We wouldn’t stay tied long as a two out rally gave the Stone Crabs the lead once again in the top of the fifth. The rally got started with a line drive double by Andrew Velazquez. Kean Wong followed with an RBI single to score Velazquez and regained the lead for Charlotte. Wong would later score on an RBI single by Adames to give them a 4-2 lead.

Palm Beach chipped away at the lead by pushing across a run in the sixth. Wiley opened the frame with a ground rule double. He would later score on a sac fly by Voit to pull to within a run of the lead.

The Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the eighth on Voit’s fourth RBI of the night. After a single by Radack put a runner on the bases for Palm Beach, Voit drove him home with a triple to right to tie the game.

The game would stay tied through nine and sent the game into extra innings. We wouldn’t stay in extra innings long as the Cardinals scored the winning run in the tenth. Danny Diekroeger reached on an error to lead off the inning. A sac bunt would move him into scoring position and a single by Radack put him at third. A walk-off RBI single by Blake Drake plated the winning run and ended the game.

Steve Ascher was charged with the loss for the Stone Crabs. Kevin Herget picked up the win for Palm Beach.

The three game series continues on Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium.
