Stone Crabs Lose to Fort Myers in 15

For the second straight night, the Stone Crabs surrendered their lead in the late innings as they lost to the Fort Myers Miracle 5-4 in fifteen innings on Friday night.

Fort Myers jumped out to an early lead by scoring three runs in the first inning. Mitch Garver delivered a bases loaded double to clear the bases and give the Miracle a 3-0 lead.
The Stone Crabs got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Mike Marjama to make it 3-1.

The Stone Crabs tied the game an inning later. Braxton Lee doubled to left to get things going. Lee then scored on a single by Grady Sizemore. Sizemore moved to third on a double by Tim Beckham. A grounder by Willy Adames scored Sizemore to tie the game.

The Stone Crabs took their first and only lead of the night in the seventh. Lee led off the inning with a walk. He then scored on an RBI double by Sizemore to give the Stone Crabs a 4-3 lead.

The lead held until the bottom of the ninth when the Miracle struck for a run to tie the game. After loading the bases with no outs, the Stone Crabs got the first two outs at home plate. Then with two outs, Zach Granite singled to left, scoring Chad Christensen. But the Miracle tried to squeeze the winning run on the play and Lee gunned the runner down at the plate, ending the inning and forcing extra innings.

The Stone Crabs put the go ahead run in scoring position several times in extra innings. But the closes they came to scoring was in the top of the thirteenth when Pat Blair doubled to left. He later tried to score but was ruled out at home.

Fort Myers picked up the win in the bottom of the fifteenth. Granite singled to center to lead off the inning. Then Aderlin Mejia reached on an error on a bunt attempt followed by an intentional walk to Alex Swim to load the bases with no outs. A bases loaded walk to Marcus Knecht ended the game, handing the Stone Crabs the 5-4 extra innings loss.

Josh Kimborwicz was charged with the loss for the Stone Crabs. Matt Summers was the winning pitcher for Fort Myers.

The Stone Crabs return home to Charlotte Sports Park for a four game series against the Clearwater Threshers. Brent Honeywell will be making his Stone Crabs debut against Ricardo Pinto (1-0, 2.84)
