The Stone Crabs mounted a late rally but fell short as they lost game two of Wednesday’s doubleheader by the score of 2-1.

Lakeland took the lead in the second inning. Dominic Ficociello reached on an error to lead off the inning. He later scored on an RBI double by Bobby Borchering to give them a 1-0 lead.

The Flying tigers added to their lead in the third. Ismael Salgado drew a walk. He moved around the bases and later scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0.

The Stone Crabs were held scoreless until the sixth. Kean Wong singled to right to things going. Wong moved into scoring position by stealing second. Willy Adames drove home Wong with an RBI single to right. A walk to Jake Bauers and an intentional walk to Maxx Tissenbaum loaded the bases but a ground out stranded the runners and left the Stone Crabs one run short of the lead.

The Stone Crabs threatened again in the bottom of the seventh. They put the tying run on third and the go-ahead run on first, but a strike out to end the game put them on the losing side of the 2-1 decision.
Buddy Borden was charged with the loss for the Stone Crabs.

The series continues on Wednesday morning at Charlotte Sports Park. Eduar Quinonez (0-1, 5.14) will be on the bump for the Stone Crabs.
