An hour rain delay helped swing the momentum as the Stone Crabs rallied to beat the Lakeland Flying Tigers 3-2 in game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader at Charlotte Sports Park.

Lakeland took a lead in the third inning when Ralph Rhymes took a pitch from Matt Moore over the wall for a two run home run to put the Flying Tigers in front 2-0.

Not long after, the skies opened up at Charlotte Sports Park, putting the game in a delay with two outs in the top of the fifth.

When play resumed, the Stone Crabs rallied to take the lead. Kean Wong singled with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to start the rally. Then came three straight singles by Willy Adames, Jake Bauers and Granden Goetzman to give the Stone Crabs a 3-2 lead.

The Stone Crabs held on to the slim lead though the remainder of game one to earn the win.

Kyle McKenzie picked up the win and Brad Schreiber earned the save.
