The Stone Crabs found themselves in an offensive deadlock on Friday night against the Jupiter Hammerheads. After a one and a half hour rain delay, the team scrounged two hits against three Hammerheads pitchers but could not garner any runs to support starter Jake Partridge’s sharp outing. The final score was 3-0 after a late-inning rally by the Hammerheads.
Jake Partridge put up yet another commanding start for the Stone Crabs. Partridge worked a season-high seven innings of shutout baseball, granting Jupiter a pair of hits and striking out seven. At the end of the night his ERA fell to 3.96 and he did not receive a decision.
The loss went to Nate Garcia, who entered in the eighth and struggled through his two innings. Rehabbing Miami Marlin Chris Coghlan singled home Noah Perio, with Brent Keys also scoring due to a throwing error by centerfielder Kes Carter. Garcia surrendered one more in the ninth to round out his night and lower his record to 3-4.
Hector Guevara and Taylor Motter had the only pair of hits. Starter Scott Lyman earned the win (3-2) for his seven-inning effort, putting up a nearly identical line to Partridge. Nick Wittgren closed out the ninth inning and gained his league-leading 24th save of the season.
The Stone Crabs, still holding the FSL South lead by three games over the Palm Beach Cardinals, welcome in Jupiter once again on Saturday evening. Felipe Rivero is scheduled to make the start for the Stone Crabs in a 6:30 p.m. game.
