Bierman to DL, Mortensen added to roster

Two corresponding roster moves were made on Friday afternoon, according to the team. Southpaw Sean Bierman was placed on the DL with an elbow injury: Bierman underwent Tommy John Surgery in 2010, two years before he was drafted, so elbow issues are not a stranger to him. In five games (one start) with the Stone Crabs, Bierman was 1-1 with a 2.11 ERA, walking none and striking out 16. He was a 2012 draft pick out of the University of Tampa.

To fill Bierman’s roster slot, Jared Mortensen was added to Charlotte after signing earlier in the week with the Tampa Bay Rays. Mortensen, a right-hander, was 4-6 with a 3.77 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 100.1 innings pitched with the independent Grand Prairie AirHogs.
