Former Stone Crab Dietrich Optioned to Double-A Jacksonville

Derek Dietrich of the Charlotte Stone Crabs takes cuts in Round OneFormer Stone Crab infielder Derek Dietrich has been optioned from the Miami Marlins to the Jacksonville Suns. Dietrich skipped Triple-A and went straight to the major with the Marlins, making his major league debut on May 8. During his 57 game stint with the Marlins, Dietrich was in the top 5 on the team in double, triples, homers and RBI’s. He was hitting .214 with 10 doubles, 2 triples, 9 homer and 23 RBI’s in 57 games. It appears Dietrich has been sent back the minor to make way for outfielder Christian Yelich who was called up from Jacksonville.

Dietrich was a member of the Stone Crabs during the 2012 season where is was an FSL All-Star. He was claimed by the Marlins following the 2012 season.
