Stone Crabs Earn Extra Innings Win Over Bradenton

The Stone Crabs earned an extra innings victory against the Bradenton Marauders on a soggy Charlotte Sports Park on Wednesday night. The Stone Crabs rallied late to send the game into extra frames where they would be walk-off winners in the bottom of the tenth. Every Stone Crabs contributed to the win with everyone in the lineup recording a hit.

The Marauders jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Taylor Lewis and Gregory Polanco drew back to back walks to put runners on the bases. Both runners would come around to score and give the Marauders a 2-0 lead.

The Stone Crabs bounced back to tie the game in the bottom of the first. Taylor Motter reached on a double to left, his fourth of the season. Motter then scored on an RBI double by Drew Vettleson. Vettleson later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game 2-2.

The Marauders regained the lead in the top of the second inning. Taylor Lewis doubled home Alen Hanson to give the Marauders a 3-2 lead.

The game was halted in the bottom of the fourth inning when heavy rain began to fall on Charlotte Sports Park. After an hour rain delay, the field was ready for baseball and play was able to resume.

The Stone Crabs continued to trail until the bottom of the ninth inning. Curt Casali singled to right to lead off the inning. Manager Brady Williams then substiuted Casali for the faster Hector Guevara on the base path. Guevara then stole second to move into scoring position. Kyeong Kang drew a walk to put the go ahead run on the bases. Steven Tinoco advance both runners into a scoring position with a sac bunt. Kes Carter drove home the tying run with an RBI single to score Guevara and tie the game. The go-ahead run was stranded on the bases, forcing extra innings.

We wouldn’t remain in extra innings for long. Richie Shaffer reached base with a single to left in the tenth inning. He advanced into scoring position following a single by Luke Bailey. Kang would be the hero of the night when he drove home Shaffer with an RBI single to right for the 4-3 walk-off victory.

Andrew Bellatti was the winning pitcher for the Stone Crabs. Quinton Miller suffered the loss for the Marauders.

The Stone Crabs look to sweep the Marauders in the series finale on Thursday at Charlotte Sports Park. Felipe Rivero (0-1) will start for the Stone Crabs against Nick Kingham for Bradenton (0-1).
