Stone Crabs Fall in Ninth to Fort Myers

Hector Guevara was 4 for 5 with a solo home run.

The Stone Crabs late game rally wasn’t enough as they suffered a walk-off loss to the Fort Myers Miracle on Monday night at Hammond Stadium. The Stone Crabs rallied from a two run deficit to tie the game in the eighth only to have the home team score in the ninth and hand the Stone Crabs a 5-4 loss.

The Stone Crabs wasted no time in taking an early lead as Hector Guevara hit a lead off homer to give the Stone Crabs a 1-0 lead.

The Miracle answered with three runs of their own in the second inning. Angel Morales tied the game with a sac fly to score Kyle Knudson. Then they took the lead on a two run homer by Anderson Hidalgo to go ahead 3-1.

Both clubs exchanged runs in the fourth inning. Kevin Kiermaier doubled home Riccio Torrez in the top of the frame. Then Jonathan Goncalves singled home a run in the bottom of the inning to bring the score to 4-2.

The Stone Crabs rallied to tied the game in the eighth inning. Steven Tinoco doubled to center to lead off the inning. He later scored on a single by Derek Dietrich to pull within a run of the lead. Dietrich later scored on a ground ball by Kiermaier to tie the game 4-4.

But the Miracle took advantage of being the home team as Goncalves scored on a passed ball by Luke Bailey to hand the Stone Crabs the 5-4 loss.

Lenny Linsky was charged with the loss for the Stone Crabs.

The series shifts to Charlotte Sports Park on Tuesday where Albert Suarez will start for the Stone Crabs against Matt Summer of Fort Myers.
