Bortnick to Play in AFL Rising Stars Game

The accolades for Stone Crabs second baseman Tyler Bortnick continue as he was invited to the Arizona Fall League’s Rising Star Game. Bortnick has been representing the Rays organization as a member of the Surprise Saguaros this fall. On the season, he is hitting .244 with 3 doubles, a home run, 2 RBI’s and 2 stolen bases in 11 games.

Bortnick led the Florida State League last season in stolen bases and on-base percentage as a member of the Stone Crabs where he was named a Florida State League All-Star. He spent a portion of the 2010 and the entire 2011 season with the Stone Crabs. He was drafted by the Rays in the 16th round of the 2009 Draft out of Coastal Carolina.

Bortnick joins fellow Rays teammate Mikie Mahtook on the Rising Stars roster.

The AFL Rising Star Game will be played on November 5 at Surprise Stadium. The game will be televised live on MLB Network with coverage beginning at 8pm EST.
