Tampa Bay skipper Joe Maddon has called upon former Stone Crab Matt Moore to start Game One of the American League Divisional Series against the Texas Rangers. This will be Moore’s second major league start and his fourth MLB appearance since being promoted to the Rays at the conclusion of the minor league season.
Moore is 1-0 with a 2.89 ERA and 15 strikeouts in 9 1/3 major league innings pitched. He pitched 5 innings during his first start in which struck out 11 Yankees enroute to his first big league win.
Prior to his promotion to the Rays, Moore was a combined 12-3 in 27 games this season split between Montgomery and Durham. He compiled a 1.92 ERA and 210 strikeouts. He was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher in the Southern League as well as being named the Most Valuable Pitcher in the Rays organization.
Moore spent the 2010 season with the Stone Crabs where he led the league and set the franchise record in strikeouts with 208. He finished the season with a 6-11 record and a 3.36 ERA in 26 starts for the Stone Crabs in 2010.
