Former Stone Crab Cobb Called Up to Tampa Bay

2009 Stone Crab Alex Cobb has been recalled to the Tampa Bay Rays and will start tonight’s game against the Texas Rangers. This is the second time this season that the Rays have called upon Cobb for a spot start, he started on May 1 against the Angels in which he pitched 4 1/3 innings in his major league debut.

Cobb is 5-0 with a 1.14 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season with the Durham Bulls. He was drafted by the Rays in the fourth round of the 2006 draft out of Vero Beach High School.

Cobb spent the 2009 season as the Stone Crab’s number one spot in the rotation and was the inaugural game starter for the Stone Crabs. He finished the 2009 season with a 8-5 record and a 3.03 ERA in 24 games. He was the first of the original Stone Crabs to get the call to the big club.
