Stone Crabs Lose Again, Swept by St. Lucie

The Stone Crabs suffered their second sweep of the season, losing to St. Lucie 7-2 on Friday night at Charlotte Sports Park. The Stone Crabs are now 0-6 on the year against the Mets.

St. Lucie jumped out to a three run lead in the first inning of play. Cesar Puello led off the game with a double to left. Puello later scored on an RBI single by Jefry Marte. Then Stefan Welch cleared the bases with a solo homer to give the Mets a 3-0 lead.

The Mets added another run in the fourth. Juan Lagares drew a walk to lead off the inning. Lagares would later score on a single by Pedro Zapata to increase the lead to 4-0.

St. Lucie posted three more runs to the scoreboard in the top of the sixth inning. Matt Den Dekker struck a double to center with the bases loaded to score Juan Centeno and Zapata. Puello would score on a sac fly by Wilmer Flores to push the lead to 7-0.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the ninth before the Stone Crabs would reach the scoreboard. Greg Sexton and Mike Sheridan opened the inning with back to back singles. Mayo Acosta drove home Sexton with an RBI double to right. Sheridan would later score on a ground ball by Chris Murrill. But the Stone Crabs could not generate any more runs and suffered a 7-2 loss.

Jake Thompson (0-1) suffered the loss for the Stone Crabs, falling to 0-1 on the season. Matt Harvey was the winning pitcher for St. Lucie and Darin Gorski recorded a save.

The Stone Crabs (6-10) travel to Hammond Stadium for a three game series against the Fort Myers Miracle (9-7). Alex Colome (0-1, 7.82) is scheduled to start the opener against Dan Osterbrock of Fort Myers (0-0, 4.91).
