MLB Spring Training: Rays vs Red Sox

The Rays continue to win as they defeated the division rival Red Sox 8-6 at Charlotte Sports Park. The Rays held a 5-0 lead by the third inning and never looked back. The win was the Rays fifth win in four days.

Several Stone Crab alumni played in today’s game including Tim Beckham, Matt Bush and Stephen Vogt.

Beckham pinch ran for Casey Kotchman in the ninth inning and scored.

Bush pitched the eighth inning, allowing no runs on 1 hit and earning a hold.

Vogt checked into right field during the eighth inning and was 0 for 1 at the plate.

Matt Joyce (2010 SC rehab) was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI’s. Andy Sonnanstine (2010 SC rehab) was the game winning pitcher, throwing four scoreless innings with 2 hits and a strikeout. BJ Upton (2009 SC rehab) was 0 for 3.

The Rays host the Pirates on Friday at Charlotte Sports Park. The Stone Crabs 2009 opening day starter Alex Cobb is scheduled to pitch along with Rays prospect pitching sensation and 2010 Stone Crab rehab player Jeremy Hellickson is scheduled to make his first appearance of the spring.
