Winter League Wrap-Up

With the conclusion of the regular season of the winter leagues, lets take a look at how the Stone Crabs alumni performed.

Leslie Anderson: Anderson split time between the Arizona Fall League and the Puerto Rico League. He began the winter season playing for the Peoria Saguaros where he hit .255/.362/.294 in 94 at bats with 4 doubles, 2 home runs and 15 RBI’s. He played in the league’s all-star game. Once the season was over, he moved to the Puerto Rico league where he hit .250/.338/.297 with 3 double, a home run and 9 RBI’s in 18 games.

Tyler Bortnick: Bortnick spent the off-season in Columbia, playing for the Cartagena Tigers. In the flood shortened season, Bootlick was .230/.230/.362 with 5 RBI’s in 74 at-bats.

Alex Cobb: Cobb was the opening day starter for the Peoria Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League. He was 1-3 with a 6.12 ERA, 30 strikeouts and 14 walks in 7 starts. He held opposing hitters to a .304 average. Cobb finished the Fall League on a high note by striking out 8 hitters in his highest total of the fall.

Alex Colome: Colome appeared in twelve games for the Leones de Escogido of the Dominican Winter League where he went most of the season without giving up an earned run, it wasn’t until his tenth game when he finally surrendered an earned run. When the season was finished, he was 1-1 with a 1.53 ERA, 14 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHIP in 17 2/3 innings.

Frank De Los Santos: De Los Santos pitched just 2 innings in 3 games for the Leones de Escogido. He had a 9.00 ETA and 2 strikeouts in those appearances.

Sergio Espinosa: like his Cuban counterpart, Espinosa split time between the Arizona Fall League and Puerto Rico Winter League. He was 0-1 and had a 7.08 ERA with 16 earned runs, 13 strikeouts in 17 games combined between the two leagues.

Marquis Fleming: Fleming worked out of the Cartagena Tigers bullpen in the Colombian League. He ended the season 0-1 with a 5.54 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched.

Jeremy Hall: Hall pitched just 2 1/3 innings for the Peoria Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League. In his short time, he had a 7.71 ERA with 1 strikeouts, 3 walks and allowed 2 earned runs.

Omar Luna: Luna played for the Aguilas Cibaenas of the Dominican Winter League. He finished the winter with a .234 average, 3 double and 4 RBI’s in 94 at-bats.

Deivis Mavarez: Mavarez was on the roster for the Navegantes del Magallanes of the Venezuelan Winter League but did not make an appearance.

Rayner Oliveros: Oliveros appeared in just one game for the Leones del Caracas of the Venezuelan Winter League. In that game, he pitched just 2/3 of an inning and allowed a run, 2 hits and a walk.

Neil Schenk: Schenk pitched in 12 games out of the bullpen for the Peoria Saguaros of the Arizona Fall League. He finished with 1-0 record with a 1.72 ERA and 5 strikeouts in 15 2/3 innings pitched. He concluded the season with six straight scoreless appearances.

Stephen Vogt: Vogt followed up his career season with the Stone Crabs by continuing to crush the ball in Colombia. He led the Cartagena Tigers and the rest of the league with 9 home runs. He finished with .402/.789/.422 with 8 doubles, 9 homers and 30 RBI’s in 92 at-bats.

Henry Wrigley: Wrigley made headlines in the the Arizona Fall League by hitting grand slams in back to back games for the Peoria Saguaros. He led the team in RBI’s and finished with a .183 average, 4 doubles, 3 home runs and 19 RBI’s.
